Pizza in Greenwich, London

Japes Greenwich is our pizza restaurant on Nelson Road in the centre of one of south-east London’s most distinctive neighbourhoods. Greenwich brings together riverside London, historic landmarks, a busy market, independent shops and a strong local community. Our restaurant is positioned among the streets that connect many of those attractions, making it a convenient place for a meal whether Greenwich is home, work or a day out.

Japes began in Soho in 2018 with Chicago-style deep dish pizza and a desire to build a pizzeria around styles with substance and character. As our team experimented and the brand developed, we created London Style Pizza, a style of our own influenced by several pizza traditions. Japes Greenwich carries that story into SE10 with a restaurant designed for people who want pizza that feels different from the standard thin-base option.

A pizza restaurant near Greenwich Market and Cutty Sark

Nelson Road is right in the heart of central Greenwich. The wider area includes Greenwich Market, the Cutty Sark, the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich Park and the Thames riverside, giving both Londoners and visitors plenty of reasons to spend time here. That makes Japes Greenwich well suited to everything from a planned dinner to an unplanned stop during a day exploring the neighbourhood.

Greenwich is also a destination in its own right rather than simply another part of London to pass through. Its maritime history, architecture and village-like centre create a very different atmosphere from Soho or Camden. We like that each Japes restaurant belongs to a neighbourhood with its own identity, and Greenwich is one of the clearest examples.

What makes Japes pizza different?

Our history begins with Chicago-style deep dish, a style known for a deeper structure and a more substantial balance of crust, cheese, sauce and toppings. Working with deep dish encouraged us to think about pizza beyond the most familiar thin formats. It also pushed our team to experiment with texture, edges, baking and the way a pizza holds its ingredients.

That experimentation eventually led to London Style Pizza. Created by the Japes team, it combines ideas we admire in deep dish with elements associated with Detroit, Sicilian and Grandma-style pizza. The caramelised cheese around the edge is one of its defining features, adding flavour and texture to the crust. If you want to understand how our pizzas differ, read our guide to Japes pizza styles.

Deep dish roots, a London identity

We are proud of our Chicago-style roots, but Japes has never been about freezing the menu or the brand in one moment. The creation of London Style Pizza reflects how the business has grown: we learned from established traditions, kept the parts we loved and developed something with its own identity.

For guests searching for deep dish pizza in Greenwich, unusual pizza in south-east London or simply a restaurant where pizza is treated as the main event, Japes offers an experience built around that evolution.

Eating in Greenwich

Greenwich is an easy place to turn a meal into part of a larger day. You might arrive for the market, visit the museums and historic buildings, walk through Greenwich Park, spend time by the river or meet locally for dinner. Because our restaurant is in central Greenwich, you do not need to leave the main neighbourhood to sit down for Japes pizza.

That location also makes collection practical if you prefer to take food away. For dine-in plans, online booking is available through the link on this page. For collection, use the Greenwich ordering link so that you are ordering from the correct restaurant.

Japes in south-east London

Greenwich was an important step in the growth of Japes beyond the original Soho restaurant. The move brought our pizza to a very different part of London while keeping the same focus on distinctive styles and a relaxed restaurant experience. You can read more about how Japes started and developed on our About page.

We also have other restaurants across London and beyond. If Greenwich is not the easiest location for your journey, our restaurant finder shows the current Japes locations and direct Google Maps links.
