Pizza in Soho, London

Japes Soho is our original restaurant and the place where the Japes story began. Set on Dean Street in the heart of Soho, it is surrounded by the energy that makes this part of central London such a distinctive place to eat: theatres, independent shops, music, nightlife and some of the West End’s busiest streets are all close by. If you are looking for a pizza restaurant in Soho for lunch, dinner, a pre-theatre meal or a relaxed catch-up in central London, Japes puts our own approach to pizza right in the middle of the neighbourhood.

We opened in Soho in 2018 with a simple ambition: to make the kind of pizza we were excited to eat ourselves. Chicago-style deep dish was an important part of the beginning, and Soho later became the place where our team developed our own London Style Pizza. That history gives this restaurant a special role within Japes. It is not simply another branch; it is where the brand started, where many of our ideas were tested, and where our approach to pizza has continued to evolve.

What makes Japes Soho different?

Pizza can mean very different things to different people. At Japes, we have always been interested in the styles that put texture, structure and generous flavour at the centre of the experience. Our roots are closely connected with Chicago-style pizza, while our London Style Pizza was created by our team after years of making, tasting and refining different types of pizza. The result is a Japes identity that does not try to copy the typical high-street pizzeria.

Our London Style Pizza brings together ideas we love from several pizza traditions, including the substantial character of deep dish and elements associated with Detroit, Sicilian and Grandma-style pizza. One of its defining features is the caramelised cheese around the edge, giving the crust extra flavour and texture. You can learn more about the thinking behind our pizzas on our pizza styles page.

A Soho pizza restaurant with a story

Soho has always suited Japes. The neighbourhood has a long reputation for restaurants, creative businesses, nightlife and people from all over the world, so it felt like the right place to introduce something different. From Dean Street you are well placed for the wider West End, including the shopping around Oxford Street and Regent Street, theatres around Shaftesbury Avenue and the busy streets linking Soho with Covent Garden and Leicester Square.

That central position makes Japes Soho useful for many different occasions. Some guests come specifically for pizza; others find us while spending the day in central London, meeting friends after work, heading to a show or exploring Soho. Whatever brings you here, the aim is the same: a relaxed restaurant experience built around distinctive pizza and food that feels worth making a trip for.

Deep dish and London Style Pizza in central London

Japes first became known for bringing Chicago-style deep dish pizza to our corner of London. Deep dish is very different from a thin pizza: the structure is deeper, the eating experience is more substantial and the balance between crust, cheese, sauce and toppings works in a different way. Over time, our team kept experimenting. That experimentation eventually led to London Style Pizza, developed in Soho and now a central part of the Japes story.

We think that variety is part of what makes pizza interesting. Rather than treating one style as the only correct way to make pizza, we have built Japes around exploring what different styles can do well. For guests searching for deep dish pizza in Soho, unusual pizza in London or simply a pizza restaurant that offers something beyond a standard thin base, our Soho restaurant is the natural place to start.

Eating out in Soho

Soho works equally well for quick plans and long evenings. It is one of London’s most walkable central neighbourhoods, with restaurants, bars, theatres and shops packed into a relatively small area. Japes Soho can therefore be part of a wider day or evening in the West End without requiring a special journey away from the action.

Dean Street is also well connected to the surrounding central London areas, making the restaurant convenient for people coming from different parts of the city. Whether you are meeting in Soho itself or choosing a central point for a group, our restaurant gives you a clear destination with booking and collection options available online.
