Pizza in Windsor
Japes Windsor is our pizza restaurant at Windsor Royal Station, placing us in the centre of one of the UK’s best-known historic towns. Windsor attracts local residents, people working in the area and visitors from around the world, with Windsor Castle, the town centre, shopping streets and the Thames all contributing to a busy mix of everyday local life and tourism. Our restaurant gives Japes a central Windsor home where pizza can be the destination itself or part of a wider day in town.
Japes began in Soho in 2018 with Chicago-style deep dish pizza. From the beginning, we were interested in substantial pizzas with strong texture, generous flavour and a clear identity. Our team continued experimenting as the business grew and eventually created London Style Pizza, a Japes style influenced by several pizza traditions. Windsor brings that story to Berkshire in a setting that could hardly be more central.
A pizza restaurant at Windsor Royal Station
Windsor Royal Station is more than a transport landmark. The historic station buildings form part of a shopping and dining area immediately connected to the town centre, with Windsor Castle close by and Peascod Street nearby. That makes Japes convenient for visitors arriving to explore Windsor as well as local guests meeting in the centre of town.
For a restaurant, location matters because it shapes how people use it. Some guests plan a table at Japes as the main event; others visit before or after sightseeing, shopping or meeting friends. Being at Windsor Royal Station gives you the flexibility to build the meal around whatever else you are doing in the town centre.
What is different about Japes pizza?
Our history is closely linked to Chicago-style deep dish, a style with a deeper structure than the conventional thin pizzas most people are used to. Deep dish changes the relationship between the crust, cheese, sauce and toppings and creates a substantial meal that feels very different from a quick slice.
Years of working with pizza led us to create London Style Pizza. It combines ideas we admire from our deep-dish roots with elements associated with Detroit-style, Sicilian and Grandma-style pizza. A caramelised cheese edge is one of the characteristics that helps give the style its identity. It is a pizza created by Japes rather than an attempt to reproduce a single existing regional style.
If you are curious about the differences, visit our pizza styles guide for more detail about the pizzas associated with Japes.
From London to Windsor
Although Japes was born in London, expanding into Windsor gives the brand a very different context. Windsor has its own pace, audience and character, so the goal is not simply to recreate Soho. The consistent part is our approach to pizza: make it distinctive, keep the atmosphere approachable and give people a reason to remember the meal.
For guests searching for pizza in Windsor, deep dish pizza in Windsor or a pizza restaurant near Windsor Castle, this page is designed to make Japes easy to discover and easy to visit. It also gives you direct booking and navigation links so there is no need to search again once you have decided to come.
Eating out in central Windsor
Central Windsor has a broad mix of restaurants, cafés, shops and historic attractions. It is a town where a meal might be part of a day out, a family visit, a date, a work meeting or simply an evening close to home. Japes is designed as a relaxed pizza restaurant rather than a formal dining experience, making it suitable for a wide range of occasions.
The town’s compact centre also makes it easy to combine Japes with a visit to Windsor Castle, shopping or a walk around the central streets and riverside. If you are visiting Windsor for the first time, using the Google Maps link on this page will take you directly to our location inside the Windsor Royal Station area.
The Japes story
Our first restaurant opened in Soho, and the brand grew by taking the same curiosity about pizza into new locations. The journey from one London restaurant to places such as Windsor is part of the wider Japes story. You can read more on our About Japes page.
If you have visited Japes elsewhere, Windsor offers another way to experience the brand. If this is your first Japes meal, the restaurant is an introduction to the styles and ideas that have defined us since 2018.
