Japes pizza is coming to Manchester
Japes Manchester will bring our pizza story to Oxford Road, one of the city’s busiest and most recognisable corridors. The new restaurant will be at 138 Oxford Road, Manchester M13 9GP, in an area shaped by universities, culture, music, workplaces and a huge student population. It is a natural place for Japes: energetic, diverse and full of people who are open to food with a strong identity.
This will be a new chapter for a brand that began in Soho in 2018. Japes started with Chicago-style deep dish pizza and grew around the idea that pizza can be much more varied than one familiar format. Over the years our team experimented with different styles and eventually created London Style Pizza, our own approach influenced by several pizza traditions. Manchester will bring that same curiosity and Japes identity to a new city.

Oxford Road is one of Manchester’s major cultural and university corridors. The area is home to the University of Manchester and is close to institutions and venues such as Manchester Museum, the Students’ Union, university buildings and a long-established music and nightlife scene. It connects the city centre with some of Manchester’s busiest educational, cultural and residential areas.
For Japes, that mix matters. We want the Manchester restaurant to serve people who live nearby, students, university staff, workers, visitors and anyone travelling along Oxford Road who wants a substantial pizza meal without the atmosphere becoming formal or complicated. The location should work for a quick decision as well as a planned meal with friends.
What will make Japes Manchester different?
Japes is not built around making the most generic version of pizza. Our roots are in Chicago-style deep dish, a substantial style with a deeper structure and a different balance of crust, cheese, sauce and toppings from a typical thin pizza. That history influenced the way we think about texture, baking and what a pizza can be.
Our team later created London Style Pizza by combining ideas we liked from several traditions, including our deep-dish experience and elements associated with Detroit, Sicilian and Grandma-style pizza. From London Style Pizza to Manchester
The name London Style Pizza reflects where the style was created, but the ambition has always been to make a Japes pizza that can travel beyond one neighbourhood. Manchester will be an important test of that idea: taking something developed by our team in London and introducing it to a city with one of the UK’s strongest food, music and student cultures.

Rather than forcing people to travel out of their way, our aim is to become an easy part of the Oxford Road routine: somewhere to meet, share pizza, grab food around other plans or introduce friends to a style they may not have tried before.
The Japes story before Manchester
Japes began with one Soho restaurant opened in 2018. From there the brand expanded into Greenwich, Camden, St Albans and Windsor while continuing to develop its pizza identity. Manchester represents another step in that growth and gives us the opportunity to bring Japes to a large city outside our existing restaurant network.
